Surfing:
Nicaragua while know for its fine diverse fishing with its oceans,inland lakes,and waterways is aslo being reconized as a world class surf destination. With its clean blue water, a southern swell spanning 9 months, from march to December, and offshore winds 330 days a year.
Playa Maderas is San Juan del sur "wave", and one of the best known in Nicaragua. It picks up both south and north swells and will hold up to double-overhead waves.
Most days, it's a playful wave, fast and racy with occasional barrel sections. Chances are you won't fear for your life surfing here.

The best tide is usually, mid-incoming, but high tide down to mid-outgoing also breaks well at times. It is rarely good at dead low. There are two main peaks at Maderas
Maderas is usually a broad mix of beginners just learning to surf, locals and traveling surfers who are staying in San Juan Del Sur, the vibe is very tranquilo. Come to Maderas to get wet and have fun, not to fight for waves. , you can beat the main crowds by surfing early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

San Juan del Sur once a small fishing town, is becoming a true vacation destination. San Juan del Sur offers a 3km horseshoe bay that is partially sheltered from the oean with hill having views of Costa Rica which is only 14 miles away. The village is clean and safe wheather on the beach or strolling through town. While the progress is evident, the local flavor and authentic style and culture still prevails
